Surbahars

The Surbahar is a bass sitar, bigger than a sitar and usually tuned a fourth or fifth lower. The size and lower pitch allow meends (slides) of up to an octave. There are several different playing styles, but in general this instrument is best suited to Alap. We get surbahars from the best sitar makers, Hiren Roy, Hemen, and Manoj Kumar Sardar.
